Sydney Art Scene Observed

Often the realm of the rich, the arty and sometimes controversial in
subject matter Art in Sydney is best looked at via a bite sized view.
The Eastern
Suburbs
Lets
begin at Woollhara – if you walk down Queens Street the charm of this
place takes you over. And when you’re at the corner of Moncur St and
Queen, you’re right in the heart of where the galleries are. I've often
loved just walking about this area and admiring the beauty of the place.
Something like 10 galleries can be found within a short walk of this
location – along with providores, dress shops, and even boutique hotels.
Paddington
area. Many people know Glenmore road as one of Sydney’s art streets with
long winding and stylishly tree lined pathways, it holds a lot of interest
among art buyers who frequent the place each day. What's more, when you get
to “5 Ways” as its known, you’ll see a wonderful assortment of cafes and
shops to your liking.
Sydney City Zones
The Rocks CBD city. Right where the country began is one of the most
diverse places for art and history. Just a short walk from Circular Quay
and you’re in George Street. Let me tell you its full of tiny streets old
buildings and wonderful views of the harbour. I first walked about this
area in the mid 90’s and learned a lot of the origins of Sydney’s history
and links to its colonial past.
Glebe and Surry Hills – the lower CBD areas. With a sprinkling of
galleries in these areas you’ll see some good cafes there too. While these
inner urban areas are built up and populated, they are places people love
to see and meet their friends at. One thing that’s fun to see is bookshops
at these places where you can relax and unwind.
Lower North Shore
Mosman
and Manly. (Sort of like another South Yarra), Mosman takes on the charm
of a busy shopping district during the day. However, it has a few select
galleries that are well worth the time to check out. Plus after you’ve
seen them, you simply must see Balmoral Beach and eat at a café down
there. Over in Manly, there’s a few galleries near the main shopping area
and this place is never dull. Great views from the hotels along the beach
and good food to eat.
